Increased self-consumption and green electricity

August 7, 2024

Since September 2023, Kerschgens Werkstoffe & Mehr has been sending a clear signal regarding sustainability and environmental awareness. This commitment is demonstrated by a 1,000 kWh large-scale energy storage system from Voltfang in Aachen. Instead of new battery modules from Asia, the system reuses recertified batteries from the automotive industry. This clever idea not only reduces waste but also produces high-performance energy storage systems that are environmentally friendly and consume fewer scarce raw materials.

The Voltfang battery storage system boasts an impressive lifespan of up to 10,000 charge cycles per battery. This storage system enables us to absorb peak loads and ensure a reliable power supply during peak times. In this way, we are increasing our self-consumption of self-generated energy by 169,000 kWh annually.

By integrating the Voltfang storage system, we plan to increase the self-consumption of green electricity generated by photovoltaic systems from the current 60 per cent to 80 per cent. This not only means more sustainable operations, but also a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.
