Kerschgens celebrates its 140th anniversary

On June 17, 2016, our company celebrated its 140th anniversary at the Zinkhütter Hof industrial museum in Stolberg in the presence of numerous guests from the world of politics and administration, and of our customers, suppliers and partners.

In his anniversary speech, Manfred Kerschgens, Executive Partner and great-grandson of the company’s founder, traced Kerschgens’ development from its beginnings in the German Empire until today. In the course of years and decades, the small metalworking shop owned by his great-grandfather became an important materials and service provider for steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and perforated plates. With 230 employees at four company sites, Kerschgens not only keeps one of the most diverse ranges of steel and metal products in stock, it also offers processing services that customers cannot efficiently integrate into their own processes – from sawing, bending, cutting and drilling to contour marking, notching, abrasive blasting, shop priming and flame cutting, not forgetting thread cutting, countersinking, marking and remarking.

As Heinz Herbort, Executive Partner, already said, “today the name of Kerschgens stands for one of the most comprehensive ranges of materials, processing services and ancillary services in the entire industry”. In future, Kerschgens wants to get a deeper insight into its customers’ markets in order to be able to offer them even better solutions and services. To this end, the company has made numerous investments, among them a new pipe processing center that will go into operation in late 2016.

In addition to the company’s anniversary, we were also able to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our site in Bitburg. In his speech, Rainer Bohlen, Proxy and Site Manager, thanked the management and the partners for the foresight that allowed for the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility in Bitburg which is one of the most modern bending centers in southwest Germany today. He also thanked the staff for always showing “100% commitment”.

Pierre Schlüper, on the other hand, quoted Salvador Dali: “I prefer to remember the future!” The Proxy and Head of Purchasing and Sales in Stolberg underlined the achievements of the Kerschgens team in recent decades: from the integration of five other steel vendors into the Kerschgens family to the company’s strategic reorientation and its implementation by the staff. He noted that following these changes, the company is now in prime shape for a successful future.

The guests celebrated long and happily in the beautiful surroundings of Zinkhütter Hof. To round off the celebrations, the company had prepared a special treat: On the occasion of the anniversary, Manfred Kerschgens opened his private lock collection to the public. Many guests availed themselves of the opportunity and enjoyed a look at this unique exhibition.
