Kerschgens supplies a wide variety of materials and processing services to industrial customers in mechanical engineering, construction, structural engineering and metal construction, and to customers working with perforated plates. Founded in 1876 by the Kerschgens family in Stolberg, the company looks back on a long and successful history in the steel trade. These are our most important milestones:

1876

Kerschgens is founded by J. J. Kerschgens in Stolberg-Mühle.

1905

The management of the company passes to the founder's sons, Josef and Heinrich Kerschgens.

1940

The company is divided into Heinrich Kerschgens Stahlkonstruktions GmbH and Kerschgens Eisenhandel KG with Josef Kerschgens as general partner.

1949

Following the death of his father, Reiner Kerschgens becomes managing partner of Kerschgens Eisenhandel KG.

1967

The current company premises on Steinbachstraße are developed. In the same year, Manfred Kerschgens joins the management.

1984

Heinz Herbort, executive partner of Kerschgens, joins the company as proxy.

1995

After five construction phases over the years, the company premises in Stolberg reach their current size. In the same year, Heinz Herbort becomes managing partner.

1999

Acquisition of Peter Grefkes GmbH in Viersen. The Kerschgens Group is born.

2002

Acquisition of Wilhelms Industriebedarf GmbH & Co. KG in Würselen.

2005

The company is renamed Kerschgens Stahl & Mehr GmbH. Kerschgens acquires Helten GmbH in Erftstadt.

2006

Founding of the Kerschgens Stahl & Mehr branch in Bitburg. The company opens a cash and carry warehouse in Trier. Wilhelms acquires Oskar Füllbeck GmbH in Aachen, a regional company specializing in metals.

2007

Kerschgens launches the corporate strategy "Kerschgens 2012". The strategy calls for a step-by-step rebranding of all group members until 2012 and a subsequent merger to form a single company. The entire communication of the company group will then take place under the name of Kerschgens.

2009

Grefkes Stahl & Mehr GmbH & Co. KG becomes "Kerschgens Werkstoffe & Mehr GmbH & Co. KG" and communicates under this name.

 

Construction of a new KASTO high-bay warehouse in Stolberg and investment in new, more advanced crane equipment.

2010

Wilhelms Metalle & Mehr also becomes "Kerschgens Werkstoffe & Mehr GmbH & Co. KG" and now does business under this name.

2012

Opening of the most advanced Section Steel Processing Center in Europe with a surface area of roughly 10,000 square meters.

2013

The new Sheet Metal Center KF 2512 by Kaltenbach is put into operation.

All group members merge to form a single company under the name of Kerschgens Werkstoffe & Mehr GmbH.

Kerschgens launches its Strategy 2021, which calls for a continuation of the company’s evolution from steel supplier to one-stop service provider.

2016

The new high-performance Pipe Center with automatic KASTO stacking cradle system and connected sawing/drilling unit is put into service.

The future – consolidation of Kerschgens’ position as a supraregional supplier of steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals and perforated plates. Continued extension of our service range.
